Park 17, Carriageway Park/Tuthangga - Vale

 Elm Carriageway

This impressive avenue of trees was planted in 1870's by William O'Brien (City Gardener 1861-1874).

"The Elm Carriageway" survives as a symbol of the first landscape plan for the Park Lands

It was originally know as Park 17.

The "Elm Beetle" causes the holes in the leaves, this happens to mature trees under stress from lack of adequate rainfall.

A good many of the trees are under severe stress

Eucalyptus sideroxylon the red iron bark is coping with the dry conditions much better
